The Excel Spreadsheet
It was told to me that let someone who
knows Excel and good luck. We as a league are still standing. Thanks to everyone
who has persisted and is still on our league! I pronounce that this week be old
timers week (John Koady). Extend a hand and reach out to a senior member and
thank them for sticking with it. My personal reach out is to John Konan (the
barbarian), he knew Excel. I also thank the HAL computer, without it there would
be no Excel (ouch Tom K). Bob J, you are doing too well to be recognized, try
next year you sand bagger! (good job!)
As usual we might have a chance of rain
Wednesday,
so don't forget your rain gear!

Eagles and BirdiesSince
we all have averages, and I now have some extra time, I was able to go back and
see how many Eagles and Birdies everyone has had. Take a look at the stats.
Kelly E has had the only Eagle of the year. Mike J is on a roll with 5 Birdies
and has the best league average with 39.8. The averages comparison has been
updated also and the league as a whole is doing 0.8 points worse this year than
last, could be the weather, or could be a great excuse.
I have a real need of some explanation of
who won the Par 3's last week, don't be afraid to email me. From what I can
determine there might be a carry over on the Par 3's on one hole, but I need
someone to verify that. If so I will post the winners, but until then I will not
because I have a nice chunk of change waiting to be paid out for the Skins
etc...
As usual we might have a chance of rain
Wednesday,

Done !!!All
players now have an average just in time for position round 1. The first of 3
position rounds will be 1st vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 4th etc.. division 1. Same for
division 2. Since we have an odd amount of teams in each division, 7th division
1 will play 7th place division 2. The second position round will be 1st place
vs. 1st place in each division down the line. The 3rd and final position round
will be the same as the first.
Bob C and Salvador won the Par 3's. The
skins were split with 3 skins to Mike J, and one each for Rob C, Rodney N, and
Kelly E.
We might have a chance of rain tomorrow,
so don't forget your rain gear!

Almost ThereOnly
2 players need one more match to get their averages. The stats only have 4 empty
spaces left to fill for the complete picture. This week should get us there.

Mike J Rules
Thanks to Mike J an audit was done to the
books to date, ummm... I made a mistake, his team's score was entered into the
books incorrectly. Well it is now fixed, and by the way I was messing Mike (I
told him he lost the match), he did, single handedly, beat Salvador M and Brad
S. Mike J does not have internet so he won't find out until next week unless
someone calls him.
There was no other mistakes made (thank
God)!
Congratulations to Salvador, the only
skin winner! 2 of the 3 par three's were won by Mike J and Alberto G. There was
one par three that carried over, so now I have to figure out how to carry it
over? Stay tuned for more details...

Congratulations to Mike J, big winner on
skins and par 3's. Mike won 3 skins on 1, 4, and 9, and pulled off a par 3.
Also, Tim K 2 and Al H were in the mix of skins... Tim an Al please see Chris.
And then here comes Alberto, boom, knocked out Salvador (I still have payouts
for Salvador from prior, please see me). Let's hope that the weather is not anywhere
near last week.
League fees are now online, scores
will be up tomorrow... be on the look out.

Last Week of Averages
This week is the 3rd week of league play
and most new players will attain their averages. Having said this you will
notice that the stats are still pretty much F---ed up, but next week we will
have some serious results and finally know where we stand as far as positions
go.
Congratulations to Izzy winning the only
skin last week. There were a couple players that did not get in that could have
won some money... hint, hint. The Par 3's went to Bob J and Salvador M.
Anyone that would like to pay their dues
please give the money to Chris D. So far Kelly E is the only one who has paid,
thanks Kelly.
There is a chance of showers tomorrow
mainly before 1:00pm, but don't forget to bring your rain gear just in case!

5/20/2009 dd
Stats
The stats for 5/13 are online, sorry so
late, but there is not much to look at. Only 2 matches were put into the record
books, we have a lot of new players this year and they will not establish their
averages until 3 matches are played.
Steve, Alberto, Tom and Chris's match was
held over due to a rainout on the 9th hole. They will match scores for that hole
this week.
Don P won the Skins and John C, Rob C,
and Ernie R won the Par 3's

Rain Out
Hello,
Wednesday's (5/6) match up was called
because of rain. It was voted on and approved to shift the schedule by one week,
thus using our 9/12 open date. The schedule is now locked. If we have another
rain out, then the matches will be made up the following week as usual.
I want to thank everyone that filled out
the Contact Info sheet. I am only missing one phone number, and emails are 16
out of 28. That's the best it has ever been in league history (correct me if I
am wrong).
By popular request it was asked of me to
post this email dialog pertaining to the Par-Takers golf league;
Mon 4/27/09 4:47 PM
Chris,
Since
you are doing email postings you may or may not want to stick this on
there. I will tell you that I kept every email in a partakers file
and the request to add Josh didn’t happen until the end of the season
last year. I think this was all an unfortunate misunderstanding as
nobody was ever going to grill anyone about their playing ability.
I think as a group we can ask if any new member has played the game
before. I appealed to Tom for another chance as he was instrumental in
the running of the league last year and has been a member for a long
time. Below you will see his response to my email and my email below
that. See you next Wednesday or this if you make it out there.
Peace out.

Meeting
Kelly,
With all due respect, the text in red is not accurate. There has been a
waiting list for the past 3 years, not just started last year. I told
you 2 springs ago, when we were still at Orchard Hills that Josh asked
about joining the league and at that time you informed of this waiting
list. When I mentioned this to you again at the beginning of last year,
you said there were 3 players already on the list and yet somehow
George, Curt, Ben & Jerry all managed to get into the league and my
son was placed behind these 3 others you refer to. No, I didn't tell
Steve or Josh about your BS. I told Josh we'll work on his game and next
year we'll see if there is an opening. There are plenty of them now but
I've had enough BS with this "instructional league" crap. It's
ok for Chris, Jerry, Kevin, George and Randy to shoot in the 50's but I
was told to be prepared to be questioned about my son's skill level.
Fuck that shit. As far as I'm concerned Josh was screwed out of joining
last year it is already set up to happen again. No thanks and
there's no misunderstanding.
Again, saying that this "waiting list" was started last year
is a crock of shit and you know it. As far as the league vote last year
for president, sorry but I don't even recall it taking place. I sure as
hell wouldn't have voted for Mike and I certainly would have nominated
and voted for you. If that vote were today, it would abstain, and maybe
you might now understand why .. If I were president I would make a
serious statement about real issues, like kicking players out of the
league that try to cheat every damn week. That Kelley, is a bunch of
crap and I don't care who gets upset. Josh should have been in the
league last year but since I'm not "in with the group", new
teams and players were put in ahead of him. This is simple fact,
decisions made well in advance of the league meeting that were prearranged
by you and a select group. It's called cronyism.
Before Monday, Steve and I were looking forward to tonight's meeting. I
greatly appreciated Mike's phone call ahead of time. I'm sure you would
do the same thing for your son, protect him from was I was told was
going to be a grilling session on skill level, leaving him humiliated.
No thanks. People I thought were my friends just stuck a knife in my
back and I don't care to be around them. It's time to move on.

Subject: RE: League Meeting
Tom,
As
I did not get the resignation email due to file size I am sending this
reply out from the email that was sent on the 10th of March.
I
think all of this has been blown out of proportion from the get go.
I will say that my initial reaction to the email on March the 10th
was to respond and defend some of the rules and the size of the league.
I also thought it important to discuss the people that have been on the
waiting list which had been started last year. (Ernie R, Tim K(2), and Jim
H) then at the end of the year your son and my
nephew showed interest in the coming season if space permitted, or to be
added to the list.
I received some calls I guess as past president (some did not remember
voting Mike in, but I assured them that at least 3 people voted (Ronnie
twice) and that I was ready for time off the board) or perhaps since I
have been either secretary or president since 1997 when Ronan made his
early spring departure. The calls were from members that either
were offended in some way or just general questions about the league
rules and what not. So instead of responding to that email since
all members are not on the email list I figured and said that all these
things could be discussed at the April 8th meeting. As
is always the case anyone of us can make suggestions that are food for
thought and then discussed and voted on as group at the spring meeting,
as this has always been done in the past.
As
emails can seem cold or indifferent I will say and I said to those that
called or showed concern, I know that you meant to not offend anyone
with this email or ever meant to disrespect any one member. To
anyone that thought these things I assured them that there was no
intention of either. I am in agreement that this league has always been
a group of guys that like to golf once a week and have fun.
Clearly if we play by rules that allow you to roll the ball & rake
and place in traps one could argue that it’s more about fun than
“real golf scoring”. That said it is the norm in our league to
have averages in the 40’s , 50’s , 60’s etc.
I
am not sure how the discussion about your son went or exactly what was
said, but I have to believe that it was misinterpreted. I don’t
believe that there any “ill feelings in the air” I also don’t for
a moment believe that your boy’s are not welcome. When my nephew
Adam inquired about how to get in to the league and how it worked I
explained to him (knowing that he was fairly new to the game) that we
did in fact have a waiting list, that skill level wasn’t important due
to handicapped averages and scoring but at the same rate he should have
the basics of golf covered. I told him to continue playing and learning
the ins and outs of the game and I also told him that when I started in
the league my first year (played you and bob for the championship by the
way) I did not know all the rules of golf and that he may learn a few
things about golf that he did not know before. I didn’t think he was a
good fit last year but wasn’t concerned since we had a waiting list
and knew he was continuing to address the game. Again I don’t
know what exactly was said in your call with MJ but have to believe
there was some misinterpretation of what he was saying.
When
you came back to the league a few years back it was good to have a core
member return from hiatus. Your input and participation in the
running of this league was more welcome than you will ever know as I had
been shouldering responsibility for a long time. It saddens me
that you are going to again20not be part of the league and ask you to
reconsider. I would of responded much sooner to this cause but as
I mentioned I did not receive copy of this until Joe Mabbit forwarded
it to me and I was up at Children’s all day yesterday as my son was
getting his quarterly test done. (all good by the way). I really
hope that you have chance to reconsider.
Sincerely,
Kelley E

Resignation
All,
I want to thank Mike for the phone call tonight. It's my understanding that
Jason and Randy won't be returning this year because of the email I sent out. It
seems that they are pissed off about my comments regarding "chickenshit"
players that won't show up if their partners aren't coming and I guess they
aren't the only ones that were offended. Mike also mentioned that
"many" were not receptive of my "suggestion" to have
substitutes play in their place, something about me "wanting to change all
the rules, and that the league is supposed to be for fun". I agree. It's
not much fun when you look forward each week to play and you have no match
because one of the opponents couldn't make it and the other player chose not to
show up. Whatever. It was merely a suggestion and I apologize to those that were
offended.
Mike also told me to be prepared to be questioned about my son Josh's playing
ability, that "we don't want the league turning into an
instructional league". The inference is clear and let me tell you,
there are a good 4 to 6 players in the league now that he would beat
heads-up on a regular basis but I'm going to protect him from such humiliation
at the meeting. Perhaps a few of you former "hackers" that I
watched grow into decent players over the years just might understand the anger
and disrespect I feel about such derogatory comments. So be it. I've talked to
Steve and he agrees with my positon. We will not be returning this year knowing
there are such "ill feelings in the air". It seems that some
"hackers" are welcome in this league but my sons are not. So be it.
Attached are the files for 2007, 2008, and 2009. I don't know what
good it will do you with no one proficient with Excel but I'm sending it
anyways.
I send my best wishes to Bob J, Joe M, Tim K, Mike J, Bob C, and Chris D., the
guys I know as true friends going back to the early years of the league.
Chris, Tim or Joe,
Can you see to it that Bob, Bob and Mike get a copy of this since they don't
have email? Thanks.
Regards,
Tom

Hey all,
It's that time of the year again. Mike asked me to send out a meeting notice
because the fool still doesn't have a computer or online access. Anyways, we'll
be meeting at the course at 5pm on Wednesday, April 8th.
FYI....Ben has left the league to play elsewhere with friends and Jerry has a
replacement. It's my understanding that we have a person on the waiting list,
sorry I forgot his name, that will be taking Perry's place as Bob's partner,
with opinions that this would be a better fit than my son Josh who is also on
the list and wants in. I'll go along with this.
This brings me to another situation we have. If you haven't heard, Bob Jackson
went in for a check-up and ended up in surgery, a pacemaker was put in. He is
expected to be out the first 4 weeks of the season. I'm not a doctor, nor am I a
prognosticator so whether or not he is able to return at that time is a question
mark. Who knows. If all works out on this assumption, great. However,
our rules mandate that partners play together a minimum of 60%
of their matches, that being 10
of the 16 weeks on the schedule. This means that any
combination of Bob or Kevin missing 3 matches disqualifies them. This is
something that Bob & Kevin need to discuss amongst themselves and make a
decision.
What Kelley has said in the past, "that both partners not showing up
doesn't count as a miss", is complete nonsense and needs to be clarified.
If that was the case, both partners could be absent all but 3 weeks and
show up together for 2 of them and be in the playoffs. Ridiculous to say
the least. The league season is 16 weeks and both partners have to play
together 10 of those weeks. CASE CLOSED. This is not
unreasonable and it's the rule. We surely have others on the waiting list that
will honor a commitment.
Now, back to Bob's situation. Having been his partner for many years and
won several titles with him I wish only the best for him and his
recovery. To maintain fairness to all of us in the league, and to keep our bases
covered should Bob not be able to fulfill a season's commitment, I'll offer up a
possible scenario. Perhaps my son Josh could play in his place until he returns.
If he doesn't return or can't finish the season, we have a player that will have
established a league handicap who can fill his spot. This takes the
pressure off of Bob regarding his return date, whenever that may be, and gets
Josh "in the door".
Having offered this up, we now have another topic of discussion for our meeting,
the use of "league established handicapped subs" in place of no-shows
and absences as an option. Just a thought. Personally, I'd like to see
this used, at the digression of the opponents who don't want to play against
one player. It will also deal with the chickenshit partners that won't show up
if their partner can't make it. We only had 2 weeks where every player showed up
so if we had subs available it's not like they wouldn't be able to play. In
fact, we could count there scores to make truer averages. Just a thought...
Expansion to 16 teams: Unlike my friend Kelley, I do not oppose expansion back
to 16 teams. In fact, I'm for it. We eliminated our attendance issue when the
"Abbott folk" left the league, no offense Don. Last year we had 53
total absences out of a possible 448. That is 88% attendance, very
good in my opinion. When I talked to Kelley the end of last season he said we
had 3 on the waiting list. If anyone knows of others that want to join our
league I suggest that you have them show up at the meeting. 16 teams would
require eliminating one of the three position rounds and extending the season by
one week. No biggie. We used to operation on that schedule.
We have much to discuss at the meeting and I hope everyone shows up. We had a
bad showing at last year's pre-season meeting and this makes group
discussion on changes extremely difficult. We need to go over course boundary
rules and what to do about indistinguishable markers as well.
If anyone has feedback to this email, please "Reply All" so we can
have an open forum. I've attached my file and if anyone can fill in missing info
on the "Contact Info" tab let me know.
Thanks and see you the 8th.

Guys,
We have an open date for next Wednesday. How about a scramble? We
discussed this yesterday and I'm sending out a note. For those that don't
know what a scramble is, I'll explain. 4-man teams with balanced averages
as best we can arrange. Such as low average, medium low average, medium
high average and high average players on each team. Everyone hits a tee
shot and then the team takes the best one and then each player then hits
the second shot and takes the best second shot. Then each player gets a
chance to putt (usually the case). Low team score wins.
Tom
8/14/2008
Hey all,
What an incredible finish we are going to have this year. In Division I we
have three teams that are only 3.5 points apart and playing for the last
playoff spot with only one team being mathematically eliminated. In
Division II we have five teams that are only 4.5 points apart and playing
for the division title and all four playoff spots.
REMINDER!!!
Considering this situation, there is a good possibility we may have a
tie and if so, it needs to be resolved next week so don't leave after you
are done playing. We've been getting a late start out of the gate almost
every week and like I said last week, daylight is critical. Everyone needs
to make a conscious effort to get to the course earlier next week in the
event we need to have a playoff. Everyone has busy schedules and the
chance of resolving a playoff on another night prior to the playoffs is
highly unlikely and I'd hate to see any ties having to be broken
by a coin flip.
Tom
8/11/2008
Hey all,
Kelley & I discussed the "Metzger Rule" yesterday and
neither of us were sure as to whether the requirement was 60% or
2/3's. Since neither one of us has a copy of last year's rules we
decided to go with the same limit we had last year, even though the season
is 2 weeks shorter because of fewer teams. Last year the limit was 6
combined absences per team and I have updated the last column in the
"Averages" tab accordingly. Bob & Perry, this means you are
not disqualified from the playoffs and are still in the hunt and are at
the limit of 6.
As you can see, races are incredibly tight going into the last 2
weeks in both divisions. The possibility of us repeating last year's
situation, where we ended up with teams tied for a final playoff spot
is real. With this said, I encourage everyone that may find
themselves in this situation to not to leave the course after
the position round on 8/20 so that a playoff can take place immediately,
daylight permitting. We have no rules in place for this format and if next
week doesn't make the picture clearer we will need to have an open forum
on how to pick holes and how many of them. I would think that 2 holes
would be a minimum, to allow for no stroke and stroke assigned holes for
fairness if necessary. Or if the teams involved want to play a full match
before the first playoff round, I say fine. Just my thoughts.
On a negative note, there has been several complaints over the past
few weeks about 2 to 3 open holes between groups due to slow play. If you
find yourself to be the cause of this, either play faster, let
groups through, or tee off later. We are now in August and daylight is
becoming a critical factor and we can't have people finishing in the dark
because of this. It's not fair to those that are sitting and waiting.
Thanks,
Tom
